Where the work goes
Sanhoti runs on volunteers. There are no paid staff, no office, and no fundraising overhead in the usual sense — the committee cooks, carries chairs, runs the sound desk and does the accounts. What money comes in goes almost entirely to the direct costs of putting events on.
We hold events across Costa Mesa, Trabuco Canyon, Irvine, Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo, Ladera Ranch and Brea, and members travel in from across Orange County and the wider Southern California region.
Venues and production
School and community halls, staging, sound and lighting. The single largest cost of running a festival that a few hundred people can actually attend.
Artists and performers
Fees and travel for professional musicians, and instruments and accompaniment for our own community performers.
Food
Ingredients and kitchen costs. Bhog and community meals are cooked in bulk by volunteers, so almost all of this is raw materials rather than catering.
Ritual and priesthood
Priest honorarium, puja materials, idols and their shipping — the costs of observing the festivals properly rather than approximately.
Charitable giving
Direct fundraising and in-kind support for Laura's House and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.
Administration
Insurance, filing, website and payment processing. Sanhoti has no paid staff, so there are no salaries in this figure.
Charitable giving
Beyond our own programme, Sanhoti raises funds and volunteer hours for two Orange County organisations: Laura’s House, which supports survivors of domestic violence, and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Both serve the county we live in, which is the point.
Governance and transparency
Sanhoti is governed by an elected committee that turns over annually. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization — legal name Sanhoti Inc, EIN 39-2903777, registered at 23 Calle Alamitos, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688.
