Poila Boishakh — Bengali New Year in Orange County, California
Poila Boishakh (পয়লা বৈশাখ) marks the first day of the Bengali calendar and is the biggest secular celebration in the Bengali year. Sanhoti celebrates Poila Boishakh each April in Orange County, California with a full Bengali feast, live music, and a cultural programme — a warm, family-friendly welcome to the new year for the Bengali and Indian community across Southern California.

What happens at Sanhoti's Poila Boishakh
- Bengali New Year feast — a full traditional menu, from fish and rice to sweets and mishti doi.
- Live music and cultural programme — Rabindra Sangeet, adhunik, band performances, dance, and recitation.
- Children's performances — our youngest community members take the stage.
- Traditional attire — red-and-white saris and panjabis are customary but entirely optional.
Who can attend
Everyone is welcome. Sanhoti's Poila Boishakh celebration is open to Bengali, Indian, and non-Indian families from across Orange County and Southern California — Rancho Santa Margarita, Irvine, Tustin, Costa Mesa, Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo, and beyond.
