Sanhoti Bengali Association hosts one of Orange County's most vibrant Durga Puja (Durgotsav) celebrations — three days of puja, pushpanjali, dhunuchi naach, Bengali food, and evening cultural concerts. Our Durgotsav 2025 was celebrated in Costa Mesa, CA, minutes from Irvine, Newport Beach, and Huntington Beach, welcoming Bengali and Indian families from across Southern California.
None of it happens by itself. Preparations start months out, and all of it is volunteered: the backdrop and alpana painted by hand over weekends, children rehearsing their pieces for the cultural evenings, menus planned and costed for several hundred plates a day, and the hall booked, measured and mapped before a single garland goes up. By the time the dhak sounds on Shashthi, months of weekends are standing behind it.
