Sanhoti Durgotsav 2025 was held at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa, Orange County — three days of puja, culture, food and community that drew Bengali families from across Southern California.
The celebration followed the full traditional sequence: Shashthi and Bodhon, Saptami, Ashtami with Pushpanjali and Sandhi Puja, and Navami, closing with Dashami, Sindoor Khela and Bijoya greetings. A priest conducted the rituals in full, and the idol was the centrepiece of a pandal built by our volunteers.
Alongside the puja ran a full cultural programme, including live concerts by Bengali musical duo Rathijit Bhattacharjee and Shreya M Bhattacharjee, and by playback singer Mahalakshmi Iyer, plus dance, drama and recitation performed by Sanhoti's own children and adults.
And, as every Bengali will tell you, there was the food — bhog served after Pushpanjali each day, with khichuri, labra, beguni, chatni and payesh, and evening stalls running through the cultural programme.
Durga Puja 2025 laid the groundwork for our largest celebration yet: Durga Puja 2026 at Orange Coast College.
