Mahalakshmi Iyer Concert

A magical evening with the melody queen. Sanhoti presented playback singer Mahalakshmi Iyer live in concert at Durga Puja 2025, at the Robert B. Moore Theater at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Orange County.

Mahalakshmi Iyer is one of Indian playback singing's most versatile voices. Her breakthrough came with "Ae Ajnabee" alongside Udit Narayan for A. R. Rahman in Mani Ratnam's Dil Se, and she went on to sing for Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy and Rahman across many of the biggest films of the era — Bunty Aur Babli, Salaam Namaste, Fanaa, Dhoom 2, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom among them. She has recorded in Hindi, Tamil, Assamese, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Odia, Gujarati and Kannada.

The Costa Mesa concert drew music lovers from across Southern California for an evening spanning her best-known Bollywood work and quieter, more intimate material — the range that earned her the "melody queen" description in the first place.

The concert formed part of Sanhoti Durgotsav 2025, alongside a performance by Bengali musical duo Rathijit Bhattacharjee and Shreya M Bhattacharjee.
